All UCOP staff are invited to join the UCOP Black Staff and Faculty Organization for two special Diabetes Awareness Month Events based around the theme “Connecting the Dots: Mind, Body and Equity in Diabetes Health Care.”

On Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 12 – 1 p.m. (PT), join BSFO for an engaging conversation on diabetes prevention, management and health equity featuring Liseli Mulala, Ph.D., MPH. Dr. Mulala is a pharmacist, researcher and associate clinical professor at UCSF. She leads a pharmacist-driven inpatient diabetes education program at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, empowering patients to better manage their health. Her work focuses on advancing equitable diabetes care and improving patient outcomes. Dr. Mulala will explain how community care, education and new treatments, such as GLP-1s, can close gaps in diabetes management. Join via Zoom at https://ucop.zoom.us/j/92849611215. Dr. Nyasha Chagwedera

On Friday, Nov. 14, from 12 – 1 p.m. (PT), join BSFO’s final fall health and wellness event featuring Nyasha Chagwedera, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Chagwedera has a bachelor’s degree in human developmental and stem cell biology from Harvard University, and completed her medical degree and a doctorate in biomedical sciences and immunology at UCSF. She is currently a psychiatrist at UCSF, where she cares for patients with mental and metabolic disorders. Her research investigates the causes of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in psychiatric patients to improve prevention and treatment. She will lead a discussion on the connections between diabetes and mental health, and how we can promote whole-person care. Join via Zoom at https://ucop.zoom.us/j/98425031556.
