UCOP AI: A year in review
AI adoption continues to grow across UCOP, creating new opportunities to improve efficiency, manage costs and support everyday work. As we approach the halfway point of 2025, the UCOP Digital Innovation and Technology (DIT) team shares insights into the progress we’ve made over the past year.
Note: Unless otherwise stated, the data below reflects the time period April 2025 to April 2026.
ChatGPT: The numbers speak for themselves
Across 773 licensed users, ChatGPT has become a daily fixture in how teams think, write, research and build:
- 533K Messages sent
- 17M Tool responses received
- 384 Custom GPTs created
- 1,482 Projects created
- 180 Skills created
- 9 users sent 5,000+ messages
Microsoft 365 Copilot: Reshaping how we work in Microsoft 365
Data from the past six months demonstrate that Copilot is saving real time across email, documents and daily workflows:
- 404 Copilot licenses
- 401 Active chat users
- 3K Actions taken (over eight months)
- 3,626 Assisted hours saved
- 9,000 Emails drafted
- 1,500 Documents created
Additional highlights
- In total, UCOP users had 1.7M+ interactions with ChatGPT and CoPilot.
- Centralizing purchasing of ChatGPT and Copilot through UCOP Procurement saved UCOP departments $95K+ in licensing costs.
- In January 2026, we launched the UCOP AI Community of Practice. With 186 members and counting, it has become the go-to space for sharing prompts, celebrating wins and learning from each other. Attend our next meeting on June 26 at 10 a.m. (PT)
- ChatGPT is now connected to Box, enabling users to work directly with company files and documents within their AI workflows.
