Check out the latest AI updates at UCOP
AI adoption is continuing to grow across UCOP, creating new opportunities to improve efficiency, manage costs and support everyday work. As more colleagues adopt this technology, the UCOP Digital Innovation and Technology (DIT) team is working to improve how we use these tools to do our work. Read on for the latest updates
Microsoft Copilot updates
New response settings
When you’re logged into Copilot, you’ll see new options in the upper right of the screen that control how quickly or deeply Copilot generates responses to your prompts:
- Auto: Lets the system determine the best response style
- Quick response: Get faster answers
- Think deeper: Get more detailed reasoning
You can also choose from OpenAI models to select the one that best fits your task.
ChatGPT updates
New AI models
UCOP’s ChatGPT environment has been updated with the latest OpenAI models to improve performance across common tasks like drafting, summarizing, research, coding and analysis. As with Copilot, you’ll choose the option that best reflects your needs:
| Tier | Model | Best For |
| Instant | GPT-5.3 | Everyday chats, quick answers, and routine tasks. Fast and always-on. |
| Thinking | GPT-5.5 | Complex questions requiring multi-step reasoning and deeper analysis. |
| Pro | GPT-5.5 | Research-grade intelligence for the most demanding tasks and projects. |
ChatGPT Skills
Skills are reusable workflows you can create in ChatGPT to handle repeat tasks consistently. They act like built-in playbooks, turning multi-step work such as drafting updates, summarizing information or formatting content into a single, repeatable action. Once created, a Skill can be used at any time to produce faster, more consistent results with minimal effort. Learn more about Skills.
Box Connector
Box, UCOP’s cloud-shared file service, is now available as a knowledge source in ChatGPT. Connect your Box account to a ChatGPT session to use your authorized Box content as context during chats. Get started by learning how to connect to a new app in ChatGPT and use the Box app with ChatGPT.
Coming soon: Open AI Zero Data Retention API
The DIT team is currently working to add OpenAI’s Zero Data Retention (ZDR) API environment. This capability would allow us to build AI-powered tools that:
- Process requests through OpenAI models
- Do not retain or store submitted data
- Meet stricter security and privacy requirements for enterprise workflows
Stay tuned for more information.
