New CliftonStrengths Team Development Program helps teams build on their strengths
Could your team work better together by understanding what each person does best? UCOP Learning & Development’s CliftonStrengths Team Development Program helps staff recognize their natural talents and use them to strengthen their work as a team.
Why CliftonStrengths?
CliftonStrengths is an assessment that helps people understand how they naturally think, feel and behave. Instead of focusing on what team members lack, the program helps them recognize what each person brings to the group and find ways to build on those talents.
Gallup research has found that teams that focus on strengths are 12.5% more productive and people who use their strengths are six times more engaged. A shared understanding of strengths can also help teams improve communication, build trust and work through challenges together.
What to expect
UCOP’s certified CliftonStrengths coaches guide participants through their individual results and lead team conversations on how their strengths complement one another. They also provide practical ways for teams to apply what they learn beyond the sessions.
More than 20 teams and 200 staff members, including employee resource group leaders, have participated. Here’s what two participants have said:
- “The session was fantastic. I enjoyed the learning aspect, but it was interactive and engaging. It was easy to see how this information can be put to work in team development.”
- “I enjoyed seeing how our different strengths can complement one another and contribute to our team’s success.”
How to get started
Teams can participate in one full-day session or two separate sessions, in person or virtually. Managers participate in additional planning and follow-up meetings to help their teams put insights to work.
Departments pay $50 per participant, which includes the assessment and an individualized report covering all 34 strengths.
To learn more and schedule a short consultation, team managers can submit an inquiry through the UCOP L&D/OD intake form. Team programs are currently being scheduled for winter 2027.
