Updates from President Milliken: The Atlantic Festival & UC-HBCU Scholars Luncheon

Wondering what President Milliken has been up to lately? In addition to his conversation with Chancellor Hawgood (photos and video coming soon!), the president has been connecting with UC community members and the general public around the university’s mission of teaching, research and public service.

Representing UC at The Atlantic Festival

On Sept. 18, President Milliken participated in The Atlantic Festival — a prestigious event that brings together thought leaders from politics, culture, technology, art and a range of other areas to share their perspectives and engage in friendly debate.

In a session titled “The Case for College,” President Milliken spoke with Columbia University President Jennifer Mnookin, Mount Holyoke College President Danielle Holley and Adam Harris, an author and podcast host at The Atlantic.

The education leaders discussed everything from AI on campus to ways higher education can expand access beyond the traditional model.

Meeting UC-HBCU fellows

On September 27, President Milliken attended the UC-HBCU Scholars Luncheon, giving him an opportunity to engage with UC-HBCU fellows and learn about their impactful contributions to the university.

Managed by Graduate, Undergraduate and Equity Affairs, the UC-HBCU Initiative encourages UC faculty to actively collaborate with faculty and students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to expand pathways and foster sustained partnerships between HBCUs and UC — particularly in academic doctoral programs.
