UC Health’s community benefit and uncompensated care reach $7.3 billion

The University of California released its latest health community engagement report, which details a record-high $7.3 billion in community benefit investments and care for which its hospitals and practices were not reimbursed by Medi-Cal or Medicare programs.

As California’s public academic healthcare system, UC supports the health and well-being of every Californian. UC’s six academic health centers serve as a vital part of the state’s healthcare safety net, with four in ten UC hospital beds filled with Medi-Cal patients each day. UC serves patients from more than 99% of California’s ZIP codes.

By offering care and community health support throughout the state, training the healthcare workforce and producing research that makes tomorrow’s cures possible, UC furthers its three-part academic, research and public service mission in ways that support the health and well-being of every Californian. Californians count on UC for better health through community engagement programs and care from UC health professionals, both within and beyond UC hospitals and clinics.
