UC campus climate study findings released at Board of Regents meeting

UC President Janet Napolitano issued the following announcement to the UCOP community on Wednesday, March 19, 2014:

Dear Colleagues:

I am writing to share with you the attached letter regarding the results of UC’s recent campus climate study, which were shared with the Board of Regents this morning. The results and background information about the study are available at http://campusclimate.ucop.edu.

As noted in the letter, I and the other UC leaders embrace the study and believe its findings will help us in our ongoing efforts to make our university community one in which everyone feels welcome, included, respected, and safe. UC has undertaken a variety of efforts over the years to address climate-related issues, and this work must continue.

The many positive findings in the study demonstrate that the extensive work to address climate-related issues that the UC has already undertaken or is performing now have made a meaningful impact. Still, other findings suggest we have more work to do. The next steps are for each UC location to analyze its data, to confirm what is currently working, and to address areas that need attention.

For UCOP, Executive Vice President Brostrom will be leading a work group to address the findings that pertain to the Office of the President. I expect this work to include engagement with the UCOP Staff Assembly and other affinity groups, our local human resources, and the UCOP community at large. Watch for more information about this effort in upcoming issues of Link.

Very truly yours,

Janet Napolitano
President
