IRAP Open House this week: Everything you always wanted to know about UC

Did you know that UC conducts nearly one-tenth of all the academic research and development done in the United States? Or that UC awards more than 30 percent of California’s bachelor’s degrees, 60 percent of its Ph.D.s and more than 60 percent of its medical degrees?
The interactive map in UC’s 2014 Accountability Report shows the statewide reach of the University of California through its campuses, medical centers, cultural resources, community college student services, Natural Reserve sites and more.
These are just a few of the findings revealed in UC’s 2014 Accountability Report, published annually since 2009 to assess UC’s achievements in key teaching, research and public service indicators across its 10 campuses.
Learn more about the report’s findings on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 12 to 3 p.m. in Franklin Lobby 1, at an open house hosted by UCOP’s Institutional Research and Academic Planning (IRAP), which produces the report.
“As the world’s largest public academic research institution, UC is accountable to the state and its people for how well it performs,” said IRAP Vice President Pamela Brown. “In IRAP, we build a culture of evidence, using data, survey administration and analysis to document UC’s performance in areas such as undergraduate success, financial aid, diversity, research and finance.”
Brown joined UCOP last November from UC Berkeley, where she had served since 2000 as director of Institutional Research, Decision Support and Business Intelligence in the Office of Planning and Analysis. Since she arrived, the UCOP department of Institutional Research has merged with Academic Planning to form IRAP, and the unit has initiated a speaker series to keep both IRAP and UCOP staff current on educational policy issues.
Brown will be at the open house, along with the rest of the IRAP team to answer your questions about the department’s work and how you can use the data in the Accountability Report. They also want to hear from you on the types of data and analysis you need to make informed decisions in your own work and preview some interactive dashboards and story boards as an effective way to broaden transparency and support advocacy efforts.
