On Jan. 22, President Napolitano hosted the first UCOP town hall of the year. The quarterly forum is designed to provide UCOP staff an opportunity to hear updates on UC business and ask questions. More than 925 employees joined in person or online.

The president began the meeting by thanking staff for their work and ongoing commitment to UC. She outlined several bold systemwide goals for UC for the coming years, as part of a new multi-year enrollment and budget plan, that includes 200,000 more degrees and 90 percent graduation rates by 2030, closing graduation gaps, and investing in the next generation of faculty and research. She also shared her views about Governor Newsom’s recent budget proposal, and said she looks forward to working with him and legislative leaders regarding State support for UC priorities.

President Napolitano acknowledged the high degree of organizational change resulting from the Huron and State audit reports, noting that the major decisions regarding the UCOP Restructuring Effort have been made and are now being implemented. She also touched on the 10-campus study report that was discussed at last week’s Board of Regents meeting.

Questions from staff focused on issues ranging from the status of the Oakland office consolidation project and the redesign of the OP performance management process, to the status of the OP Change Management work group and the president’s advice for how staff can succeed and advance their career at OP.
