Cascade accessibility trainings: Keep your department website in compliance

Do you manage your department’s website? Is it accessible? If you’re not sure, attend a training on accessibility in the Cascade content management system (CMS) led by an in-house Cascade expert. Here are our upcoming offerings — select each course name to register.

Cascade Accessibility Workflow
Sept. 15 or Oct. 13, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Learn about the accessibility review process in the Cascade CMS. We’ll cover the basics of web accessibility, with an emphasis on producing accessible content for your department on UCOP websites.

Accessible Websites in Cascade
Sept. 22 or Oct. 20, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Develop a functional understanding of web accessibility practices as they pertain to working within the Cascade CMS. We’ll cover the basics of web accessibility, with an emphasis on producing accessible web content and remedying common accessibility violations. Topics include providing accurate and descriptive alternative image text and proper formatting for hyperlinks, headings and lists.

And, don’t miss Creating Accessible PDFs, taking place Sept. 29 and Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.! While not specifically a Cascade-focused course, creating accessible PDFs is an important step in the website production process. Learn how to create accessible Word documents, which can be easily converted into accessible PDFs, and identify basic accessibility issues using Adobe’s accessibility checker.

For nuts-and-bolts Cascade training, join us for Cascade Fundamentals on Oct. 20 from 9 – 11 a.m. You’ll get a Cascade log-in and information on how to edit and maintain your department website.

You can also check out self-paced accessibility training and other resources at the UCOP Electronic Accessibility website.
