Learn to live, work and lead as an anti-racist

The UCOP Learning and Development and Culture, Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion teams are once again partnering to produce a new set of workshops in the popular Continuing the Conversation on Race discussion series. The theme of these sessions is: Putting anti-racist theories into action — how to live, work and lead as an anti-racist. Each session will provide an opportunity for participants to explore questions that can help inform their approaches to anti-racist leadership and collectively strengthen an anti-racist culture at UCOP.

These sessions will be led by Lisa D. Walker, M.A., a senior consultant with the Equity Consulting Group and former director of equity and inclusion at UC Berkeley. Walker has more than 20 years’ experience engaging groups in effective dialogue and training. Her expertise includes cultural fluency, implicit bias, equity, diversity and inclusion, team building and conflict and communication models. She recently led focus groups at UCOP on behalf of the Anti-Racism Task Force.

For new Continuing the Conversation on Race participants

Continuing the Conversation on Race began with an initial series of three sessions this fall, led by author and educator Dr. Rachelle Rogers-Ard, executive director of People, Leadership and Development with the Alameda County Office of Education. These sessions provided participants with a background on the theories and history surrounding racism and anti-Blackness in the United States.

Video recordings of Dr. Rogers-Ard’s sessions are available for on-demand learning through the UC Learning Center. We encourage staff who plan to attend the upcoming sessions to begin by watching these webinars:

  • The Historical Impact of Race in the US
  • The Concept of Whiteness
  • Anti-Racist Leadership
