Explore the policy implications of California’s fall elections

On Sept. 28, the UC Center Sacramento (UCCS) kicks off its fall speaker series with “The Policy Implications of the Fall Elections.” The event will provide context on upcoming California elections by drawing important comparisons between California and other states, as well as positioning contemporary Californian politics with those of the state’s past.
Featured speakers from the UC Davis Political Science Department
Ben Highton
Professor and Department Chair Ben Highton, Ph.D. studies American politics with a research focus on mass public opinion and political behavior. Along with these topics, he teaches election law, research methods and quantitative analysis. Before coming to Davis in 1999, Professor Highton was an American political science association congressional fellow and worked in the U.S. Senate, where he specialized in education and welfare policy.
Erik Engstrom
Professor Erik J. Engstrom, Ph.D. specializes in the study of the U.S. Congress, political parties and American political development. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, and his articles have been published in leading political science journals, including the American Political Science Review and American Journal of Political Science. Professor Engstrom served as department chair from 2017 to 2021. Prior to joining UC Davis in 2008, he served as a faculty member for five years at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
