Flu season is here and the 2022-2023 influenza vaccination is now available. Protect yourself, your colleagues and your community by getting your flu shot early. We encourage all employees to receive a flu vaccine as soon as possible.

As in past years, if you’re working at a UC location, you must affirm your vaccine or formally decline one by completing the Declination of Influenza Vaccination form by Dec. 1, 2022. (Read about UC’s vaccine policy below.) If you come on-site, you will affirm your vaccine through UCOP Screen or UCDC Screen.

UCOP Screen has been updated to include the following 2022-2023 flu vaccination options in response to the question “Have you received a 2022-2023 influenza vaccination?”

• I have received my influenza vaccination
• I plan to receive my influenza vaccination by 12/1/22
• I have submitted the declination of influenza vaccination form to opt out
• I plan to submit the declination of influenza vaccination form to opt out

At this time, you will receive an “Approved” message for each of these options. Beginning Dec. 1, UCOP Screen will be updated and you will receive a “Not Approved” message if you have not received your vaccination or completed the Declination of Influenza Vaccination form.

It’s easy to find a flu shot

Flu vaccines are widely available — contact a retail pharmacy in your medical plan’s network or your primary care provider. All UC medical plans include coverage for flu vaccinations at no cost to those covered by the plan, as long as you follow your plan’s guidelines.

Stay home if you’re sick!

About the systemwide policy on vaccination programs

UC’s policy on vaccination programs, issued Aug. 30, 2022, consolidates existing vaccination requirements into a central document. UCOP leadership will make decisions regarding requirements for those who decline the flu vaccine (i.e. masking and other non-pharmaceutical interventions). More information about UCOP’s policy will be announced soon. These measures are intended to protect all members of the UC community, including students, faculty and partners with whom they interact.
