Flu shot clinic Q&A

Are appointments required?
Appointments are highly recommended but not required. However, do note that vaccines are limited, and we cannot guarantee vaccine availability for walk-ins. Another bonus of signing up in advance: The first 20 people to schedule an appointment will be entered into a drawing to win a prize!

Do I need to bring my medical plan ID card?
Nope! Just bring your UCOP employee badge.

Do I need to be a Kaiser HMO member to receive the flu vaccine?
No. All UCOP employees are eligible to receive the flu vaccine at this event.

How can I make sure that my flu vaccine will be documented in my medical records?
Everyone receiving the flu vaccine will complete a consent form, which will serve as proof of the flu vaccine. Please take a picture of your consent form to retain as proof of your flu vaccine.

I don’t work in Oakland. Where can I get my flu shot?
Flu vaccines are widely available. Contact a local retail pharmacy in your medical plan’s network or your primary care provider. All UC medical plans cover flu vaccinations at no cost, as long as you follow your plan’s guidelines.

Can my spouse/ dependents receive the flu vaccine at this event?
Unfortunately not — this clinic is for UCOP employees only. All UC medical plans cover flu vaccinations at no cost to those covered by the plan, as long as you follow your plan’s guidelines.

Must I get a flu shot?
As in past years, if you’re working at a UC location, you must affirm your flu vaccine or formally decline one by completing the Declination of Influenza Vaccination form by Dec. 1, 2023. UC’s policy on vaccination programs, issued Aug. 16, 2023, consolidates existing vaccination requirements into a central document. UCOP leadership will make decisions regarding requirements for those who decline the flu vaccine (i.e. masking and other non-pharmaceutical interventions). These measures are intended to protect all members of the UC community, including students, faculty and partners with whom they interact. For more information, read the Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Program policy (PDF).
