Last call for Sautter Innovation Award applications

UC seeks applications for the Larry Sautter Award for Innovation in Information Technology, due by 5 p.m. Friday, May 20. The program recognizes innovative information technology projects and takes applicants from all 10 campuses, UCOP and Lawrence Berkeley Lab.

Catherine Candee to depart UC for bepress

After 12 years at UC, Catherine Candee will be leaving for a position with Berkeley Electronic Press. Candee has served as founder and director of California Digital Library’s e-scholarship program, codirector of the Office of Scholarly Communication and, most recently, as director of strategic information, publishing and broadcast services in Academic Planning and Programs.

Feb. 9 brown bag: The story on artificial sweeteners

How has saccharin, an accidental laboratory by?product, been transformed in our minds into a healthy ingredient? Prof. Carolyn de la Peña, author of Empty Pleasures, will talk about artificial sweeteners at 12 p.m. Feb. 9 in Franklin Bldg, Room 5320. Can't come in person? A fond farewell to Dr. Susan Wilbur

In a celebration of all she has accomplished, UC's director of undergraduate admissions was honored by colleagues at a Jan. 11 reception. Wilbur will retire at the end of January after 31 years of university service.

Thanks so much for helping to orchestrate yet another successful “First Friday Breakfast” event. It seems that the menu items have been greatly enhanced with quite a few heart-healthy additions. In particular, I was pleased to see the mini-yogurt/granola/strawberry parfait as well as the breakfast burrito choices. The Alameda County Community Food Bank now serves 1 in 6 Alameda County residents. UC’s Office of the President is pitching in with a food drive between now and Jan. 11th. You can help by bringing a donation of non-perishable food to one of the collection bins in the Franklin Building lobby. Read more for a list of what's needed most.
