Kevin Smith, chief financial and compliance officer in the UCLA chancellor's office, has been selected as the 2011–13 staff advisor-designate to the University of California Regents, UC President Mark G. Yudof announced on May 18.
The University of California's three children's hospitals — Davis, Los Angeles and San Francisco — all rank among the nation's top pediatric hospitals, according to the new 2011–12 Best Children's Hospitals survey conducted by U.S. News & World Report.

University of California Health and its five medical centers have joined the federal government's Partnership for Patients, a $1 billion patient-safety initiative aimed at improving care and lowering costs.
Since January 2009, UC's 10 campuses have initiated some 400 projects to improve the efficiency of buildings and cut energy use, costs and emissions.
