The University of California Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is the 2014 recipient of the Myra Bradwell Award for its exemplary efforts and success in promoting and advancing women in the legal profession.

Karen Petrulakis attended a Sept. 18 dinner in Los Angeles to accept the award on behalf of OGC. She is chief deputy general counsel and deputy general counsel for litigation in UCOP’s OGC office.

OGC’s Karen Petrulakis (left) on Sept. 18 accepted the Myra Bradwell award from Anne Tremblay, president of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles.

“The award is well deserved,” Petrulakis said. “It’s a credit to General Counsel Charles Robinson and his efforts to promote women and people who have families, and OGC’s entire team is dedicated to diversity in everything it does.”

In addition to attorneys here at UCOP, OGC also has representative counsel on all the UC campuses. Of a total of 86 attorneys systemwide, 55, or two-thirds, are women. The OGC systemwide leadership team comprises 18 staff, half of whom are women.

OGC also sponsors a number of family-friendly programs such as its annual picnic and “Bring your Daughters and Sons to Work Day,” and its Diversity Committee sponsors events throughout the year like Chinese New Year and Passover to celebrate all cultures.

The Myra Bradwell Award was established in 1993 by the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles to honor a law firm or office for its efforts to advance women lawyers and issues important to women.
