This Wednesday, Oct. 8: Learn the basics before you start scanning
So, you’d like to go digital and scan all your records. Great, but how do you ensure that they’ll be available and searchable in the future? Is scanning always the most cost-effective solution?
Learn the basics of scanning before you hire a service or hit the scan button. Records Manager Laurie Sletten will be back with Scanning 101, another workshop brought to you by the Less-Paper/Paper-Less Initiative.
Content will include the pros and cons of scanning your records, assessing your needs and how imaging works. Three one-hour sessions will be held this Wednesday, Oct. 8, all in Franklin Lobby 1, at the following times:
- 11:30 am to 12:30 pm
- 2 to 3 pm*
- 3:30 to 4:30 pm
*Note that the 2 pm workshop will also be available via ReadyTalk. Dial 1-866-740-1260 and enter passcode 9879411; log on to www.readytalk.com with passcode 9879411 to get the workshop materials.
The workshops are part of a series in records management, inspired last March by the UCOP Efficiency Review, that has included recycling drives, workshops in UC’s Records Retention Schedule, Unsubscribe Week and other efforts to reduce paper in the office. Records Compliance Week in August resulted in UCOP dumping more than 18 tons of records and is just the beginning of what will become an ongoing effort.
If you have questions or want to prepare yourself with more information before the scanning workshops, see the ITS Records management resources webpage for a wealth of helpful tips and training materials on scanning and other records management solutions.
