Bike to Work Day returns Thursday with free events, giveaways and all the high-fives you want
Recent research at UC Davis found that exercise doesn’t just benefit your body, it also replenishes neurotransmitters in your brain that may promote mental health. May is Bike to Work Month and, in keeping with this month’s focus on getting active (including the Take the Stairs campaign and UC Walks), it’s a great time to get in some exercise and enjoy the benefits of bicycling.
“Bicycling is not only a great way to help UCOP meet its carbon neutrality and sustainable transportation goals, but for me, it is also an important way to get exercise and decompress at the end of a long work day,” said UCOP Associate Director of Sustainability Ryan Bell.

UCOP resources for bicyclists
Franklin Building
Bikes can be securely parked in the employee garage. To have bike-parking authorization added to your UCOP employee ID card, contact the Work Management Center at buildingservices@ucop.edu. Processing may take a few hours, so be sure to arrange this before biking to work. Showers and day-use lockers are located by the elevator on the 9th floor. (Bring your own toiletries and towel.)
Kaiser Building
To get Kaiser building access to parking and showers, contact Kaiser Building Management at KaiserCenter@Swigco.com.
415 20th St. Building
A shower is located on the fourth floor.
Broadway Building
There are many racks where tenants can lock their bikes on the first floor of the parking garage. On Bike to Work Day, bicyclists can use the regular bike parking area near the garage entrance, and there will be an additional area of the garage — parking spot stalls 63, 65 and 67 to the left of the A level stairs — roped off for overflow parking. Please be aware that there is no place to lock your bike in this area; security will be patrolling this area throughout the day. To gain access to the building garage when biking, press the buzzer outside the gate and security will let you in.
In addition, UCOP offers these additional commuter benefits and rideshare resources.
