UC Walks celebrates 10 years with gusto
Employees at UCOP in Oakland, UC Riverside and the UCPath Center participated in UC Walks on May 8, 2019.
On May 8, 2019, UCOP staff in Oakland and at the UCPath Center in Riverside celebrated the 10th annual UC Walks — a fitness and wellness-focused event sponsored by UC’s Systemwide WellBeing Initiative.
In Riverside, nearly 200 UCPath Center and UC Riverside employees decked out in UC Walks T-shirts enjoyed a 30-minute walk adorned with mascot footprints and inspirational signs on their way to a track. There, they completed laps as they were cheered on by volunteers with signs and bubbles.
In addition to enjoying delicious UC Riverside-grown oranges, employees enjoyed 10 fun stations, including jump roping, hula hooping, golf putting, beach balls and a selfie station with UC Walks-themed props.
In Oakland, hundreds of participants gathered at Lakeside Park, where they were greeted by a blue and gold balloon archway. After picking up UC Walks T-shirts, they visited booths organized by UC health care vendors. Highlights included a silent disco, basketball-shooting competition, apple donut bar, low-calorie kettle corn, and raffle prizes. Employees warmed up with lively stretching and line dancing exercises, followed by a walk around Lake Merritt.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s UC Walks!
