Performance appraisals for FY 2019-2020 delayed until fall

After close consultation with chancellors, and in consideration of the crucial work associated with COVID-19, President Napolitano has suspended the FY 2019-2020 systemwide Annual Performance Appraisal Program for policy-covered staff until the fall.

“I recognize some campuses have already begun or even completed the performance appraisal cycle. Thank you for your diligence and attention to this important process,” said President Napolitano in her note to chancellors. “I greatly appreciate all you are doing to maintain our operations and uphold our mission.”

With the suspension of performance appraisals, compensation decisions that are traditionally associated with performance reviews are also suspended until the university has further clarity about its financial situation.

Questions and answers about the performance appraisal delay

If I haven’t entered my appraisal but don’t want to wait until the fall to get started, can I work on it in the meantime?
Yes. Halogen will remain open and employees can continue to complete their self-appraisals as their time permits.

Will work that I’ve already done in Halogen stay in the system?
Yes. Any reviews or comments that have been entered into Halogen will be maintained; you will not lose any work.

If I submitted my appraisal but would like to update it now that I have more time, can I edit it?
Yes, you can contact eappraisal@ucop.edu to assist you with having your appraisal sent back to you for editing.

What does this decision mean about previous deadlines?
All timelines for the FY 2019-2020 Performance Appraisal Process are being removed from the website and will no longer be enforced. All reminders and overdue system notifications are turned off.

If I manage people, can I deliver performance appraisals to my employees when I’m done with my assessment?
Managers should not deliver performance appraisals to employees until notified. We will inform managers when we are restarting the appraisal process.
