Leadership Fundamentals for Aspiring Leaders Information Session
Sept. 5, 10 – 10:30 a.m.
If you have never been a manager or supervisor, but are interested in learning key aspects of leadership, time management and wellness, the UCOP Leadership Fundamentals for Aspiring Leaders program (LFP) might be just what you’re looking for! Created and facilitated by long-time, highly rated UCOP vendor Pierre Khawand this cohort-based learning opportunity is designed to help participants develop and practice leadership, behavioral and wellness skills that are crucial in today’s information overload and fast-paced work environment. Join us at this information session to learn more.

People Leaders Forum
Sept. 8, 1 – 2 p.m.
People Leaders Forums are a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. This month’s session will feature special guest speaker Kelly Howard, director of talent acquisition and executive recruitment, UCOP, and will focus on how to be your own recruiter.

New Employee Orientation
Sept. 12, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Oakland)
Starting a new job or transitioning to a new location can be daunting. The UCOP New Employee Orientation is designed to facilitate your smooth transition to the organization. Topics will include UC and our history, UCOP overview, tools and resources, safety and compliance.

Project Management I
Sept. 13, Sept. 20 and Sept. 27, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Led by the Center for Project Management, this three-session workshop series emphasizes the fundamentals of how to initiate, create and manage a project. Participants must attend all three sessions:
* Session 1: Define a clear, shared understanding of a project at the outset by creating a comprehensive project charter.
* Session 2: Build a professional-grade project plan and develop detailed estimates.
* Session 3: Convert a project plan and estimates into a project schedule; track and communicate the project status.

Excel: Advanced Data Analysis
Sept. 14 & 21, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In this two-part workshop, participants will have an opportunity to work with, share and protect multiple worksheets and workbooks. Learn how to automate workbook functionality; use advanced functions; audit, forecast and analyze data and trends; create sparklines and mapping; and get an introduction to macros, VBA and dynamic arrays. Excel: Introduction to Data Analysis is a prerequisite to this class.

PowerPoint Techniques
Sept. 19, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Learn powerful techniques that can help you save significant time, better manipulate and format presentations, convey information in a compelling way and collaborate with others more effectively. We’ll cover dozens of navigation and formatting tips and shortcuts, including master slides. We’ll share data presentation tips, including creating tables, charts and diagrams within PowerPoint and importing assets from other applications. We’ll also show how SmartArt can add visual elements that make your presentation more memorable, as well as other presentation best practices to increase impact.

Imposter Syndrome, Perfectionism and Perfectionist Culture
Sept. 22, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Imposter syndrome, or imposter phenomenon, is the belief that you’re inadequate or incompetent in your role — despite evidence that you’re skilled and successful. We all struggle with this sometimes. But imposter syndrome and perfectionism can paralyze you and make you less effective at work. Pamela Rich, organizational development consultant at UC Berkeley, will lead an interactive session to explore these concepts. Discover how the demands of contemporary institutions and perfectionist culture (also known as white supremacy culture) impact us, and how to counter their effects. Then, take part in informal assessments, individual reflection activities and small-group breakout sessions. The goal for this session is to help you build a happier, more sustainable and positive sense of self.

Smooth Operator: Facilitating With Flow in Hybrid Meetings
Sept. 26, 1 – 2:30 p.m. (Hybrid opportunity: Broadway 7001 & virtual)
Learn preparation and process techniques for leading hybrid meetings smoothly, increasing participation and engagement, and including in-person and virtual participants. During this session, you will learn to address the biggest hybrid meeting challenges; understand how to prepare, lead and follow up on hybrid meetings; and discover processes for engaging meeting participants in productive brainstorming and decision-making.

LinkedIn Learning for Managers
Sept. 28, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Learn how to use LinkedIn Learning with your team as a professional learning tool. As a UCOP manager or supervisor, LinkedIn Learning has tools and features to make assigning and tracking team learning easy!

Self-Care in the Workplace
Sept. 29, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Successful leaders have an array of unique skills, talents, personalities and passions, but one thing that tends to set them apart from less-successful peers is a sustainable self-care practice. In a new course led by Nicole Williams Browning, Ed.D., you’ll get an overview of the essential components of self-care, identify key attributes of each component, understand self-care strategies specific to leaders and create a plan to implement sustainable self-care practices in your life.
