Explore implicit bias with your UCOP colleagues

If you’ve taken the UC Managing Implicit Bias series and would like to go deeper on exploring your own understanding of implicit bias, its impact and what you can do to prevent it, join us for a deep dive!

Taking place on Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (PT), Managing Implicit Bias, Extend Your Learning provides an opportunity to discuss challenges and strategies for managing implicit bias; get a greater understanding of your own implicit biases; and learn how to promote equity, diversity and inclusion wherever you are.

Together, we will explore and reflect upon questions such as:

  • What are our unique biases, and how can we be more mindful when making decisions that they may influence?
  • How do we consciously de-bias our thinking?
  • How will it benefit me to know when I am engaged in implicit bias?
  • How can I apply what I have learned?
  • How can I commit to continued exploration of my own biases?

Testimonials from previous course participants

Here’s what UCOP colleagues have said about the aging Implicit Bias, Extend Your Learning course:

  • “It was really meaningful to explore the next steps beyond simply understanding what implicit bias is. We learned how to put our knowledge into practice through tangible steps like building community, reaching out and creating change. The course simplified a concept that can seem overwhelming by showing us how to enact the values that are important to us in small ways.”
  • “I liked the mix of quiet contemplative time and small group discussions when addressing such a weighty topic.”
  • “I enjoyed the environment of free and open dialogue.”
  • “This course was the perfect blend of ‘teaching’ and ‘hands on’ practice.
  • “I loved how the trainer emphasized that we are never fully culturally proficient and that there is a constant journey of growth.”
  • “The course really made me think and self-reflect about areas that I had not really considered even though I’m motivated to learn more about diversity, equity and inclusion.”
