President Drake addresses more than 1,400 staff at hybrid UCOP Town Hall
On Tuesday, April 16, UC President Michael V. Drake, M.D., held a Town Hall for UCOP staff, with an in-person audience of approximately 125 staff attending in Oakland — a full house — and an additional 1,300 colleagues participating via the Zoom livestream.
President Drake provided opening remarks, welcoming employees at all locations and touching upon Earth Week, the value of spending time with others, safety in Oakland and UC’s Community Safety Plan, the California state budget, staff salaries, the Systemwide Office of Civil Rights and UC’s global leadership role.
The president then answered pre-submitted and live questions from UCOP staff in conversation with moderator and UC Treasury Director Philomenal Peña. Question topics included UCOP hybrid work guidelines; how UC is working to support students, faculty and staff amidst a complex climate; UC’s partnerships, including our commitment to Oakland; Beyoncé’s new album; and what he’s enjoyed watching and listening to lately.
