Reminder: How to access the Oakland Broadway building outside of normal business hours

If you regularly work in the Oakland Broadway building — or cut through the Broadway lobby to enter the Franklin building — you may be wondering how to access the office before or after business hours. Please check out the information below and follow the recommended steps to ensure timely access.

Business hours for the Franklin/Broadway campus are as follows:

  • Franklin Building: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Broadway Building: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday

Accessing the Broadway building following an after-hours event

If you attend an event in the downtown Oakland area and you will be returning to the office through the Broadway building entrance, please follow these steps:

  • Contact the UCOP security desk in the Franklin lobby — (510) 987-9790. Notify them of the date and time you plan to leave and return to the Broadway lobby. You can call the same day if you are attending with short notice.
  • Check in with the security ambassadors in person before you leave for your event so that they will know who to expect upon your return. This part of the process will help ensure that you will be allowed in, and helps to prevent an unauthorized person from trying to gain access.
  • Make sure you have your UCOP work badge before you exit the building.
  • Call the security desk about five minutes before you return to the Broadway entrance. This will help ensure that a security ambassador will be available to let you in.
  • Be prepared to show your UCOP work badge to the security ambassador when you arrive.

General after-hours access in Oakland

If you need to access the Franklin or Broadway building in other after-hours situations (e.g., on a weekend, before business hours begin or after business hours for an unplanned reason:

  • Contact the security ambassadors located in the lobby of the Franklin building using the intercom located adjacent to Franklin Street entrance doors.
  • Be prepared to show your UCOP employee badge. (If you do not have your badge, you will need to show some form of identification to allow the ambassadors to verify your employment.)
  • Once the ambassador confirms that you are a valid employee, they will escort you into the building.

For questions, contact the Franklin building security desk at (510) 987-9790 or email ucopsecurity@ucop.edu.
