Influence Without Authority: Leadership as an Individual Contributor
March 5, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
How can ICs take ownership of their career growth, leverage their knowledge and skills, and make an impact without climbing the ladder? In this workshop, we’ll dive into the leadership skills needed to become influential contributors: building trusting workplace relationships, managing up, carving out a niche area of expertise, and connecting the dots from your role to the organizational mission.

UCOP STEP: Successful Check-Ins
March 13, 1 – 3 p.m.
In this new course for individual contributors, participants will explore how to get the most out of their STEP Check-ins. The course will review best practices for tracking progress on STEP goals, managing emotions when receiving feedback and delivering upward feedback utilizing the CARE model. The highly interactive two-hour virtual live workshop will allow employees to practice the CARE model when giving feedback to others and upward feedback to their managers. The goal of the course is for employees to be best prepared to engage their managers during their STEP Check-ins. The framework breaks down the conversation into parts: Context, Action, Results, Explore and Envision.

March 26, 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
You’ve activated your Gartner membership through UCOP; now what? Join us to learn how to tailor your Gartner experience and leverage the latest research on generative AI, manager effectiveness, inclusion and many more critical topics.

Personal and professional growth

21 Practices for Happiness and Accomplishment at Work
March 18, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
This workshop is designed to help participants develop and practice mindfulness, emotional intelligence, a growth mindset and productivity skills crucial in today’s workplace. Participants focus on behavioral changes and initiative-taking while also paying attention to self-care, stress reduction, fostering enjoyment and self-fulfillment.

Write Right
March 25 and April 1, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
This foundational two-session course provides the basics of grammar and writing clearly. Participants learn key characteristics of good writers and practice those skills in the session. They also learn the current best practices in business writing.

Safety

UCOP Safety: Active Attacker Training
March 12, 1 – 2 p.m.
Melissa Collins, Program Manager for Security, Risk and Resilience, will facilitate this live virtual class. Participants will learn skills and strategies to respond if they are exposed to active attacker situations. The course will review real-life incidents and discuss options in the event of potential similar encounters.

UCOP Safety: Basic Awareness
March 20, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Melissa Collins, program manager for security, risk and resilience, will facilitate this live virtual class that will provide essential safety tips to help employees feel informed, alert and safe as they travel to and from the workplace. Extra time will be allotted for questions and feedback.

Software and technology

UCOP Creating Accessible Documents
March 12, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Digital accessibility is about ensuring users with disabilities can easily access and engage with any digital content. In this course, you will learn the principles of digital accessibility, how to generate accessible Microsoft Office Documents and how to export these to PDF.

Collaborating Productively in Hybrid Meetings
Broadway 8001 + Zoom | March 18, 1 – 3 p.m.
This workshop features tech-focused techniques to equip anyone leading hybrid meetings with the right preparation and processes to run meetings smoothly, increase participation and engagement and include all voices, whether they’re joining in person or virtually.
*Hybrid Oakland employees are encouraged to attend in person in Broadway 8001

Box Fundamentals
March 19, 10 – 11 a.m.
This course will give you an overview of Box, the cloud-based service that provides our secure file storage and file sharing. Topics covered include how to use Box, collaborate inside and outside of UCOP, comment directly on files, folder permissions, shared links, and many other tips that will help you when using Box. Administrators from IT will be on hand to answer your questions and review the best features of Box.

People Leader Forum – Preventing Burnout: Moving Toward a Thriving Workforce
March 7, 1 – 2 p.m.
The People Leader Forum is a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams.

GROWing Your Check-In Conversations for Managers
March 13, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
GROW is a popular coaching framework used worldwide for problem-solving, goal-setting, and performance improvement. This interactive session provides managers with the opportunity to discuss and practice using the GROW framework as a strategy and tool to support engaging STEP checkpoint conversations.
