Window tinting project in Oakland Franklin building begins May 2
To improve building comfort, reduce solar heat gain, and support energy efficiency goals, UCOP Building Services will begin a window tinting project on the 11th Street side of the Franklin building starting Friday, May 2, and continuing for approximately six weeks.
The project will focus on the sun-exposed southwestern side of the building, where the solar load has the greatest impact on temperature control and airflow balance.
What to expect:
- Work will only take place on Mondays, Fridays and weekends to minimize disruption.
- Technicians will begin on the 5th floor and work upward to the 12th floor throughout the project timeline.
- The project affects offices and conference rooms in the 400 series on each floor (e.g., 5403, 6410, 12405).
- Technicians will need brief access to affected rooms. If a space is in use, they will defer the work and revisit it later when it is unoccupied.
Why this work is important:
- Improves comfort by reducing solar heat and glare in high-exposure areas
- Reduces heat load on the building’s systems, helping to balance temperatures across floors and improve overall energy efficiency
- Supports UCOP sustainability goals by lowering energy use and cooling demands
- Protects interiors from UV-related fading of furnishings and equipment
We appreciate your cooperation as we complete this energy-efficiency upgrade. For questions, please contact Building Engineer Daniel Rugroden.
