Leadership development and change management
How Positive Discourse Shapes the Workplace
June 4, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Positive discourse is a compelling resource and motivator to inspire others to think and act more positively. It is a medium through which we make our intentions, values and beliefs known to others. As leaders, our language can make the difference between a high-functioning and positive environment and a team with high turnover and disgruntlement. When leaders have a greater awareness of their discourse that is aligned with core values, they can impact the changes they desire both individually and as a team. This course will explore the science of gratitude, define discourse and uncover how it affects teams; identify the language of leadership; and identify steps to shift language for a positive team culture.
Navigating Change and Transitions
Thursday, June 12, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
“The only thing that is constant is change.” Heraclitus, who lived 100 years before Plato, knew this and it is still true today. This workshop will explore the human response to change and the stages within the transition process. Participants will expand their capability to successfully navigate personal and professional changes while utilizing the William Bridges’ Transition Model and Psychological Flexibility framework.
Safety
UCOP Safety: Active Attacker
June 11, 2 – 3 p.m.

Software and technology
Excel Macro/VBA
June 10 & June 17, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
In this two-part series, you will learn how Macros and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) can be used to customize and automate repetitive tasks in Excel. Macros can automate those tasks so they can be repeated when needed. VBA coding can expand a user’s ability to perform those necessary tasks where macros are limited. This two-part workshop will cover recording, executing and editing macros; adding Visual Basic to enhance macros; creating interactive, design decision-making and looping VBA procedures; and debugging and error-handling VBA techniques. Before registering for this class, you should complete MS Excel Intermediate or have the requisite skills taught in that class. Participants must attend both sessions.
