Coming soon: A new way to connect — introducing Zoom Phone!
The IT Client Services Telecommunication team is excited to share a transformative update to how we communicate and collaborate across the organization: As part of our strategic vision to modernize our communication tools while improving flexibility and cost, we’re moving from Cisco Unified Communications and Jabber telephony to Zoom Phone by the end of 2025.
This change is more than just a new phone system — it’s a leap forward in how we stay connected, whether working in the office, remotely or on the go. We’re making this change after the successful adoption of Zoom phone at several UC campuses, including UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis and UC Riverside.
Zoom Phone features
Zoom Phone is a cloud solution, which means that it’s not reliant upon on-site physical servers, like our current system.
It brings Zoom’s reliability, simplicity and integrated experience to voice communication, allowing us to unify calls, meetings and messaging into a single, easy-to-use platform. You’ll access Zoom Phone through the same Zoom app with which you’re already familiar.
Here are some helpful features that you can look forward to:
- Mobile and desktop apps: Simple to use and completely integrated apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android
- Call transfer and forwarding: Supervised and blind transfer capabilities ensure you can easily route calls to the right person anytime, anywhere
- Call blocking: Manage personal call black lists to automatically block unwanted calls
- Call conferencing: Three-way ad-hoc conference calling allows users to quickly add a third caller to an in-progress phone call
- Call delegation: Assign administrative assistants the ability to make and receive calls on behalf of executives
- Voicemail: Voicemail transcription and notification allows you to easily manage voice messages from any device

Next steps
We’re committed to making this transition easy, informative and even exciting. You’ll receive regular updates as we move closer to launch, including migration dates and information about live and recorded training sessions.
There will be minimal service disruption and all phone numbers will stay the same. And, we’ll be there every step of the way to support you.
Get ready to experience the future of voice communication!
