Coming soon: Zoom Phone migration

The IT Client Services Telecommunications team is introducing Zoom Phone, a new calling platform that will replace Cisco Unified Communications and Jabber across UCOP. This change supports UCOP’s broader effort to modernize communication tools, improve flexibility and manage costs. Zoom Phone is already in use at several UC locations.

More than a system update, Zoom Phone offers a more mobile and integrated way to connect. Whether you’re in the office, working remotely or on the go, you’ll have consistent access to calling and collaboration tools within the Zoom app.

Phased rollout

The transition will take place from April through October 2026 in six phases across UCOP departments. Rolling out in stages allows the team to provide focused support and ensure a smooth experience.

Training sessions and open office hours will be available throughout the rollout to help you get comfortable with the new system and make the most of its features.

What to expect

  • No action is required before your scheduled migration
  • You’ll receive details about two weeks in advance, including your migration date, training options and support resources
  • Phone service interruption during migration is expected to be brief (about 5–10 minutes)
  • Your existing phone and extension numbers will stay the same
  • After migration, Jabber will be retired and Zoom Phone will be available directly in the Zoom desktop app

This transition is designed to be as seamless as possible while providing tools that better support how we work and collaborate.
