Be vigilant with “urgent” messages: Protect your information from phishing scams

Although Cybersecurity Awareness Month ended in October, cybersecurity is an ongoing priority. Threats to your data and our organization’s information security don’t end with the calendar month.

Please stay alert, especially when receiving any emails, text messages or other communications claiming to be “urgent” messages from leadership. Phishing attacks often use urgency to try to bypass your caution, tricking recipients into sharing sensitive information or taking actions that could compromise security.

Direct deposit fraud is one of the many potential risks that can arise from phishing emails. Please keep the following tips in mind:

  • Verify the sender’s address – Don’t trust names alone; check the actual email address. If in doubt, reach out to the sender using a different channel (e.g., text or Zoom chat).
  • Be cautious with links – Avoid clicking on links in unsolicited messages. Instead, navigate directly to official sites.
  • Report suspicious emails – If you receive anything suspicious, please report it to the IT Service Desk immediately.
