Upcoming changes in UCOP HR
Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer Rachael Nava sent the following message to all UCOP employees on Friday, Oct. 15, 2024:
Dear colleagues,
I am writing to share an important upcoming change in the UC Operations Division. I have made the decision to shift the UCOP Human Resources function from UCOP Operations to Systemwide HR, effective Dec. 1.
Interim UCOP CHRO Pat Hardaway will complete her contract with UCOP in a few weeks. I want to thank Pat for her tremendous contributions to UCOP in shepherding the OP HR team for the past 14 months. Dianna Henderson will temporarily assume the Interim UCOP CHRO role while we search for Pat’s permanent replacement, and the UCOP CHRO will report to Vice President for Systemwide HR Cheryl Lloyd moving forward. We will re-launch the search for a permanent UCOP CHRO next year.
Pat and Dianna will overlap for a few weeks to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities, and the full transition of the UCOP HR function will be completed within 60-90 days. This shift will not result in any job losses or any changes in roles and responsibilities.
A couple of key factors led to my decision to make this change:
First, UCOP HR and Systemwide HR already work together closely and have a common focus. Systemwide HR has a complementary organizational structure and deep expertise in HR – attributes that will support UCOP HR’s success moving forward. Following the recent reorganization of Systemwide HR and bringing on new leadership, that team is well positioned to support UCOP HR.
Second, this shift will better align OP HR’s work more closely with our campus structure. Specifically, OP HR policy, the future of work, and any other body of work governing employee workplace policies continue to be led from OP HR, in coordination with building services and other groups throughout UCOP.
I want to thank Executive Director Thera Kalmijn for her leadership of the UCOP HR function over the past several years, which have included navigating the pandemic and its complex aftermath. I also want to acknowledge Cheryl for adding a new component to her portfolio. I know that UCOP Operations and Systemwide HR will continue to work hand-in-hand together to serve our UCOP clients in support of the University’s mission.
If you have any questions about this transition or what it may mean for your ongoing work with UCOP HR, please reach out to Chief of Staff Cathy O’Sullivan.
Sincerely,
Rachael Nava
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
