This interactive session allows managers to discuss and practice using the GROW framework as a strategy and tool to support engaging STEP checkpoint conversations. Success in the Workplace for Newer Professionals — NEW course!

This training equips new and early-career employees and the managers who support them with the skills, awareness and behaviors needed to thrive in today’s evolving workplace. Through a mix of practical guidance and concrete examples, participants will learn the unwritten norms that shape workplace success, from communication and meeting etiquette to collaboration, professional presence and work habits. The session also highlights the unique strengths newer professionals bring to organizations and offers strategies to bridge gaps, build mutual understanding and foster a culture where employees at all levels can grow, contribute meaningfully and succeed.
Reflective Listening

Reflective listening is a crucial skill for today’s workplace — for leaders and team members — and it’s a skill that you can learn. This course will introduce you to some of the fundamentals of Reflective Listening, allowing you to start practicing today. This course is part of the UCOP Communication series certificate.
Navigating Change and Transitions
Jan. 21, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
“The only thing that is constant is change.” Heraclitus, who lived 100 years before Plato, knew this and it is still true today. This workshop will explore the human response to change and the stages within the transition process. Participants will expand their capability to successfully navigate personal and professional changes while utilizing the William Bridges’ Transition Model and Psychological Flexibility framework.
Managing and Organizing Your Email Inbox
Jan. 22, 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Learn powerful tips and techniques that can save you hours and help you get better results from email communication! We’ll cover practical Microsoft Outlook features, including using flags, categories, calendar items and tasks to track action emails; using advanced searches to easily find information; and organizing and archiving messages for future reference. Get useful strategies for transforming email into a productivity tool.
Subtle Acts of Exclusion
Jan. 27, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The term “microaggression” has become widely used, yet it is just as widely misunderstood. Join us as we reframe microaggressions as subtle acts of exclusion (SAE). Explore the SAE framework, learn how to interrupt SAEs, engage colleagues in discussion and reflect on how our socialization impacts our outlook, attitudes and behavior.
UCOP Creating Accessible Documents 2: PDFs
Jan. 28, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Building off the Creating Accessible Documents 1: MS Office training, this session offers a deep dive into using Adobe Acrobat Pro to manipulate, tag and test PDF documents for accessibility. We will cover tagging documents from scratch, common accessibility errors, tables and building accessible PDF forms. To fully participate in this class, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Pro installed (not just Acrobat Reader). Note: Creating Accessible Documents 1: MS Office training is a prerequisite for this class.
Box Fundamentals
Jan. 28, 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
This course provides an overview of Box.com, the cloud-based service that offers secure file storage and file sharing at UCOP. Learn how to use Box to collaborate with people in and outside of UCOP. Plus, discover file comments, folder permissions, shared links and other tools to help you get the most out of Box. IT administrators will review the platform’s best features, then answer questions.
Project Management for Non-Project Managers
Jan. 30, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Whatever your role, chances are that you’re involved with project management on some level. If your primary role isn’t project management, but you’d like to learn more about the fundamentals of project management and how you can apply them to your projects, this is the course for you! While we will cover traditional project management concepts, this session is focused on sharing innovative insights and practical techniques to help you better manage projects of all kinds.
