Thursday, Aug. 27, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Learn about UCOP compensation policies and practices, including promotions and equity, salary offers, hiring, bargaining units, Career Tracks, Job Builder by JDX and position descriptions. This Manager Essentials at UCOP course is required for people who have entered management or supervisory positions at UCOP since 2020, and experienced managers are welcome.
People Leader Forum: Equity and Promotion Process Review
Friday, Aug. 28, 1 – 2 p.m.
Join fellow people managers for a review of UCOP’s compensation equity review and promotion processes with UCOP Compensation Director JJ Lerma.
Manager & Employee Conversations Pt. 3: Coaching Emotional Regulation Through Feedback
September 1, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Learn how to give meaningful, actionable feedback that supports employees in developing social-emotional skills. Through practical tools and real-world scenarios, managers will build confidence coaching employees around relationships, emotional awareness and navigating emotions. Sessions 1 and 2 of Manager and Employee Conversations are prerequisites.

September 3, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Get an overview of UCOP hiring and onboarding, including hiring processes, inclusive recruitment, relevant policies and laws and tools and practices for successfully welcoming new employees. Learn about UCOP policies and manager responsibilities related to equal employment opportunity, discrimination, labor and employment law, family and medical leave, reasonable accommodations and workers’ compensation. September 17, 10 – 11 a.m.
Get familiar with UCOP’s budget process and the Business Resource Center. This session covers the budget cycle, integrated financial systems, BRC teams and services and available training and resources. This Manager Essentials at UCOP course is required for people who have entered management or supervisory positions at UCOP since 2020, and experienced managers are welcome.
Managing Represented Employees
September 18, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Build your understanding of what it means to manage represented employees in a unionized workplace. Managers will learn labor-relations fundamentals, including contract awareness, roles and responsibilities and effective communication practices.

UC employees also have access to Gartner, an on-demand resource for in-depth professional research, tools and best-practice guidance. While LinkedIn Learning is a great resource for building skills through courses and videos, Gartner can help you dig deeper into specific topics through research reports, practical tools and ready-to-use resources such as presentation materials.
