Join FSAP for a special workshop on mental health in the age of AI

Jessica Allanson, Ph.D., M.A., is a licensed clinical psychologist with the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program at UCSF.
From brainstorming ideas to offering companionship, artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday life. But as AI tools sound more human and take on more personal roles, how can we recognize when they’re helping — and when it’s time to pause?
Join the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) on Friday, Oct. 30, from noon–1 p.m. (PT) for “Mental Health in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: What Helps, What Hurts, and What to Watch For.” Licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Jessica Allanson will lead the Zoom webinar.

Build a healthier relationship with AI
Drawing on current research and psychological perspectives, Allanson will explore AI’s potential mental health benefits and risks. Participants will learn how to recognize when their own or someone else’s relationship with AI may need greater attention, along with practical ways to set healthy boundaries and use these tools more intentionally.
The conversation will offer a chance to consider how AI fits into daily routines, including seeking information, making decisions and finding support during difficult moments. The goal is to better understand how these tools can affect well-being, where their limitations matter and how to make thoughtful choices about using them.
Allanson specializes in recovery from substance use and workplace burnout, primarily supporting people in demanding work environments. She also leads FSAP’s postdoctoral fellowship program and brings a compassionate, education-focused approach to her work.
Note: This webinar focuses on psychological well-being; it will not cover IT, cybersecurity, data privacy or UC-specific AI policies.
