Calling all OP staff: Apply for the OP Staff Assembly Steering Committee and help make a difference
Join the OP Staff Assembly Steering Committee and help promote the interests of your colleagues!
The nomination period for eight open seats for the upcoming two-year terms starts today (Tuesday, May 29) and continues through Monday, June 11. The election will be held June 19–25 when OP staff will vote to select new committee members.
The OP Staff Assembly (OPSA) is an organization for staff dedicated to promoting the interest and welfare of all career employees. The Steering Committee organizes events and forums where staff can discuss issues of mutual concern, and offer opinions and recommendations on policies, processes and programs.
OPSA is also part of a larger body, the Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA), and represents UCOP employees to the larger UC employee community through CUCSA.
“Joining the UCOP Staff Assembly really helped me get out of my work silo and learn about other departments within UCOP and meet some really talented co-workers,” said past Steering Committee member Dan Scannell. “The bottom line is that it was very rewarding to be able to listen what UCOP staff want, like trainings and job opportunities, and then work on projects to make those wishes become reality.”
“Being part of the UCOP Staff Assembly gave me the opportunity to work with so many talented and equally passionate employees that I would probably not get a chance to work with closely otherwise; it not only gave me greater visibility on how the university works and how decisions are made – it also allowed me to be able to listen to experiences by staff and bring them up to leadership’s table for discussion,” added Emma Sebastian, chair of the Steering Committee.
So remember, from Tuesday, May 29 through Monday, June 11, nominate yourself or someone you know to run for the OPSA Steering Committee. This is an opportunity for you to get involved!
