The Morrill Act was signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln on July 2, 1862, creating land-grant universities to educate citizens from all walks of life and advance research in agriculture and engineering, the cutting-edge fields of the day.
The June 28 statement on UC funding in the state budget signed by Gov. Brown recommends that regents vote to keep current tuition levels in place for the coming year.
