Managers’ Corner: Learn to promote psychological safety

Calling all people managers: Mark your calendar for the next People Leaders Forum, taking place Friday, Aug. 20, from 1-2 p.m. (PT). Register now.

The theme for this month’s session is “What is Psychological Safety, Anyway?”

Harvard Business School Professor Amy Edmondson popularized the term “psychological safety” from her research in the 1990s. Google analysts interviewed 180 teams and found that psychological safety was the number one predictor of high performance — more so than talent. Everyone will walk away with one takeaway you can apply immediately.

People Leaders Forums give you an opportunity to connect with people managers across all UCOP locations to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support yourself and your team. Participants ranked previous sessions as 4.7 of 5. One manager shared: “We focused on concrete issues and had a space to talk about strategies — without pretending that everything has a solution.”
