If you have never been a manager or supervisor but are interested in learning key aspects of leadership, time management, and wellness, the UCOP Leadership Fundamentals for Aspiring Leaders program (LFP) might be just what you’re looking for!

Created and facilitated by long-time and highly rated UCOP vendor Pierre Khawand from People-OnTheGo, this cohort-based opportunity is designed to help you develop and practice the leadership and behavioral skills that are crucial in today’s information overload and über-fast-paced work environment.

What you’ll learn

LFP is an opportunity to develop greater self-awareness and design your personal leadership style. You’ll learn behavioral changes to support your success, including how to take initiative for breakthrough results. You will challenge your current perspectives and habits to discover and leverage your untapped potential — and the potential of your team. LFP is a journey of personal and professional development that can help you gain a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction with your career path.

Pierre combines lessons from his popular self-development courses, including 21 Practices for Happiness at Work and Accomplishing More with Less, with key leadership skills and strategies, including:

  • Setting goals
  • Managing long-term and short-term priorities
  • Organization and time management tips
  • Personality and leadership styles
  • Decision making
  • Emotional intelligence (EQ)
  • Managing stress and mindfulness

Program structure

LFP consists of five Tuesday sessions, Sept. 17 through Oct. 22, with no class on Sept. 24. We will hold one all-day session in Oakland (a virtual option is available) and four shorter sessions via Zoom. In each session, you will apply new skills and techniques in manageable increments, solve real problems and build lasting effects.

In addition to the facilitated sessions, this program includes:

  • Meetings with a peer workgroup
  • A real-world leadership project that you will complete within your day-to-day work role
  • Brief on-demand learning modules
  • Individual assignments
  • Access to an online portal with resources
  • Optional office hours
