Build your tech skills with free UCOP classes and online resources

Looking for ways to keep your technology skills current, build confidence with commonly used tools or explore new resources? UCOP has you covered. Learning and Development offers a variety of free opportunities to help UCOP staff strengthen their skills, from live virtual classes to self-paced LinkedIn Learning collections you can explore on your own schedule.

Live virtual classes

All class times are listed in Pacific Time. Unless otherwise noted, classes are held online via Zoom. Preregistration is required — select each class name to register through the UC Learning Center.

UCOP Creating Accessible Documents 1: MS Office
June 16 and July 22, 1 – 2:30 p.m.
Digital accessibility helps ensure that users with disabilities can easily access and engage with digital content. In this course, you’ll learn the principles of digital accessibility, how to create accessible Microsoft Office documents and how to export them to PDF. This is the first course in the series and a prerequisite for UCOP Creating Accessible Documents 2: PDFs.

Career Development Tools
July 7, 10 – 11 a.m.
UCOP offers several on-demand career development tools that are available whenever you need them. This session will introduce LinkedIn Learning and My UC Career, and show how you can use them at any point in your career development journey. You’ll also learn best practices for building a story-driven LinkedIn profile and professional brand.

PowerPoint Techniques
July 9, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Go beyond the basics of slide creation in this highly interactive session. Through practical, scenario-based examples — including building a marketing plan, developing content-rich slides and creating a customizable sales presentation — you’ll learn PowerPoint strategies that can help you save time, engage your audience and deliver more effective presentations.

Box Fundamentals
July 29, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Get an overview of Box, UCOP’s cloud-based service for secure file storage and file sharing. This course will cover how to use Box, collaborate with UCOP and non-UCOP colleagues, comment directly on files, manage folder permissions, use shared links and apply other helpful tips. IT administrators will be available to answer questions and highlight key Box features.

Keep learning with LinkedIn Learning

For a more flexible option, UCOP staff also have free access to LinkedIn Learning, where you can build technology skills at your own pace. Learn how to get started, then explore recommended tech-related offerings through UCOP Collections, personally compiled by Learning and Development staff.
