Targeted training cohort for UCOP individual contributors

Supervising a team isn’t the only way to be a leader. By bringing colleagues together, guiding projects and sharing expertise, individual contributors play an important role in every team’s success.

Learn, connect and put skills into practice

The UCOP Leadership for Individual Contributors Cohort offers experienced staff an opportunity to build on their strengths and grow their influence. The program welcomes colleagues who want to deepen their impact in their current roles and those considering a move into management.

From Jan. 28 through May 27, 2027, participants will learn alongside colleagues from across UCOP through workshops and small-group discussions. Together, they’ll explore practical approaches to project management, emotional intelligence, working effectively with supervisors, time management and writing and presentation skills.

Along the way, participants will identify their leadership strengths, share ideas and apply their learning to a workplace leadership project of their choosing.

Program requirements

Applicants are expected to engage fully and should plan to commit about eight hours per month to the training. Virtual workshops meet from 9 a.m. to noon PT, with small-group sessions on alternate weeks from 1–2 p.m. PT.

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • A current individual contributor role at the P3, P4 or P5 level
  • At least two years in their role and at UCOP
  • A STEP rating of Solid Performance or above
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • The support and approval of their supervisor

If you are accepted into the cohort, your supervisor will need to complete a form in support of your application, including approving the time commitment, and cover a $100 materials fee through the departmental budget.
