UC gets out the vote in our national and state capitals
The 2024 election is just around the corner, and UC is working to inspire community members to register and turn out to vote. In September, we launched the UC Votes website, which, in partnership with Rock the Vote, provides the UC community with voter registration resources and nonpartisan voter information presented in a fun and easy-to-understand way. Throughout the fall, UC students have been encouraging voter participation by sharing this information —including student-centered voting FAQs — on every UC campus.
To encourage members of the public to vote and ensure they know how to cast their ballots, colleagues and interns on UC’s Federal Government Relations (FGR) and State Governmental Relations (SGR) teams, both part of UCOP, have been sharing nonpartisan voting information with legislative offices in our state and national capitals.
Encouraging voter turnout in Washington
In early October, UC FGR staff and interns visited the Washington, D.C. offices of the California congressional delegation to deliver two “Get out the Vote” (GOTV) posters to help promote voter registration and turnout. They followed up to share helpful voting information that delegates could share with their constituencies, including a GOTV toolkit with non-partisan voter registration tips and engagement materials, including creative assets, Giphy stickers and sample social media posts.
Engaging Californians from Sacramento
The SGR team mirrored FGR’s efforts and distributed posters with all four UC GOTV images, as well as laptop stickers, to all 120 legislative offices and policy committee staff at the State Capitol in Sacramento. The images were well-received by enthusiastic staff, many of whom actively participate in voter information efforts in a personal capacity. SGR staff followed up their visit by sending digital assets and a GOTV coloring page to all legislative communications directors.
