Managers’ Corner: Learn about the new Manager and Employee Conversations series

Formerly known as the GROW series, the redesigned Manager and Employee Conversations series equips all managers with vital skills for empowering employees to be more effective and successful. Both virtual trainings are part of the required series for managers, Manager Essentials @ UCOP. If you are a manager who has already completed the earlier version of these trainings, you do not need to retake them — but you are welcome to join us for a refresher!

Part 1

In Manager and Employee Conversations Part 1: Feedback and Coaching Employees, managers are introduced to the GROW coaching framework (Goal, Reality, Options, Will) to empower employees to set goals, solve problems and improve performance. This interactive session provides managers with opportunities to discuss and practice conversations using the GROW framework as a strategy and tools to support engaging STEP check-ins.

Part 2

The Manager and Employee Conversations Part 2: Feedback for Employee Accountability course answers the question, “What can I do when coaching isn’t working?” This course helps managers transition from a coaching stance to a more directive approach when performance expectations are not being met. Managers will have an opportunity to practice providing critical feedback, managing emotions, creating efficient documentation and holding effective accountability conversations.
