Managers’ Corner: Upcoming learning opportunities to build skills and support your team
Being a people manager is an amazing opportunity to develop your leadership skills, and whether you’ve been a manager for two years or 20, there’s always room to grow. UCOP Learning and Development offers several opportunities to help you develop new skills while also learning to better support your team.
People Leader Forum: Coaching and Feedback to Grow Social and Emotional Skills
Friday, May 29, 1 to 2 p.m. (PT)
The People Leader Forum is a monthly opportunity for people managers to connect with one another to develop leadership skills, build community, share best practices, swap strategies for navigating current challenges and learn to better support themselves and their teams. In our May session, we will explore how to provide your employees with meaningful, actionable feedback that supports them in developing social-emotional skills. Many managers find it challenging to guide growth in areas like building positive relationships, navigating emotions and strengthening emotional awareness. This session challenges the belief that these skills are fixed, showing instead that they can be learned and developed over time. Through practical tools, real-world scenarios and concrete strategies, managers will build confidence in coaching and giving feedback that helps individuals grow.
Managing Represented Employees
Friday, June 5, 9 to 10:30 a.m.
This session will provide managers with essential guidance for effectively managing represented employees in a unionized environment. Participants will learn the fundamentals of labor relations, including contract awareness, roles and responsibilities and appropriate communication practices.
