Learn how to cultivate mindful self-compassion through loving kindness

On Friday, Feb. 27, from 12-1 p.m. (PT), join the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) for a mindful moment webinar focused on cultivating a mindful self-compassion practice.

Self-compassion is a well-researched branch of mindfulness practice that helps us to access the benefits of our own caregiving skills. Many of us are highly skilled at providing care to others at work and at home — providing mentorship to trainees and caring for patients, parents and children.

Through a brief overview of mindful self-compassion research and an extended guided loving-kindness meditation, attendees will learn to redirect caregiving skills back towards themselves. Those new to mindfulness and experienced practitioners are welcome to attend!

About our presenter, Dr. Jessica Allanson

This session will be led by FSAP Licensed Clinical Psychologist Jessica Allanson, Ph.D., director of the FSAP Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program.

Prior to FSAP, Dr. Allanson specialized in mental health and substance abuse services for nearly a decade in institutions around the Bay Area, including working as a counselor, insurance advocate and program director in residential and outpatient settings.

She has chosen to specialize in recovery from substance use and workplace burnout in primarily high-intensity/high-achieving populations, incorporating empirically validated behavioral interventions as well as industrial/organizational psychology strategies into her work. Dr. Allanson has maintained a personal mindfulness practice for most of her life and has dedicated a portion of her career to teaching others about the mental health benefits of practicing mindfulness, including in her position at FSAP.

Dr. Allanson believes in the power of compassionate education and hopes to use her passion for teaching to support and empower those willing to learn.
